On April 4, 1968, at the age of 39, the Nobel Peace Prize Laureate was assassinated in Memphis, Tennessee. Inscribed on the portion of his tomb he shares with his wife, Coretta, are the words, "Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, Im free at last!" Dr. King is best known for his "I Have a Dream" speech which prompted the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Act.
